| Help us to help youWeb Servers are notoriously difficult to configure. We have tried to make KF Web Server easy to use and are looking at ways of making it even easier. However Internet protocols are complex and setting up multiple web sites can be confusing.
As KFWS is a freeware product we cannot provide the same level of support as with give to our commercial products. Before you contact us you might like to try looking if your question is listed in the Frequently Asked Questions page.
In order to give more detailed support it helps a great deal to look directly at youe configuration and log files.
Questions we may askIf you are having problems then please try and give us the following information as it will enable us to deal with it a lot faster. What version of Windows are you running on?
What sort internet connection do you have?
What sort of DNS server do you have? When did you set up your DNS server? What are the exact error messages you receive? If you are having problems integrating CGI applications then tell up the name and version number of the application.
Send us details of your configuration the easy wayWe can often spot errors immediately when we look at your configuration. There are two ways in which you can provide us with this:
A page from Administration1) Go to the relevant page in your KF Web Server Administration. The best pages for us are "Web Sites -> Sites" and "Security -> Directories", when dealing with configuration problems. 2) In the Internet Explorer menu select "Tools -> Mail and News -> Send Page". 3) Add your comments describing the problem to the message and email it to support@keyfocus.net.
Your complete configuration fileThe most useful thing of all for us is to see your complete configuration which is stored in one file called kfws.conf. This will enable us to see everything, including your KF Web Server passwords. If you are nervous about us having this or sending it over the internet, then don't worry we can help you in other ways, but it may take a bit longer.
1) Create an email and then add the file kfws.conf as an attachment.
You will find this file in this folder "C:\Program Files\KeyFocus\KFWS\conf". Send us log filesAll requests made to the server, successful or not, are recorded in the log files. These log files often make find a problem very easy.In this folder "C:\Program Files\KeyFocus\KFWS\logs" you will find all the log files produced by the server. These files can grow quite large so if you send them to us then it is a good idea to compress them using a utility like WinZip. |
